Day 93 - Gila Bend, Arizona

For day 93, I skated from Buckeye to Gila Bend, Arizona- for a total of 37 miles with a climb of 450 feet. It started off decent with some sidewalks and then opened up to a bunch of rough farm roads with minimal shoulder… After the disappointing start, things got much smoother on the highway! I hit some construction and had to hop to the opposite side for a bit, but all in all, it was a smooth ride. I was searching for a good scene to paint, and was stoked when I found an old beat up cactus poking out of the bushes in the distance. It was so pronounced against the sky as a rigid silhouette, I almost thought it was a metal sculpture until I got closer. I realized this was one strong cactus; beaten and battered, but still standing. He had so much personality and charm, I had to immortalize him and share his beauty with the world.
I think we can all relate to this cactus-
Life may beat us up and make us feel weak or ugly at times… but it’s these battles we must overcome that bring out the real beauty from within.
