Day 90 was a huge hill climb on roads with no shoulder most of the time in the Arizona mountains. It was a beautiful day, and I firmly believe that most of the cacti on this planet live in Arizona. Honestly, I find it almost comical that it is illegal to skateboard on the interstate, yet I can legally skate up and down "death mountain" no problem. This day was a bit tricky when cars were coming around sharp turns, I had to step into the dirt and lean against rock walls to get out of the way. There were quite a bit of large trucks as well- as this is a mining area. It was a steady climb most of the way up with a few really steep segments. My back was hurting pretty good, but I would stop and relax for a minute or two every mile or so to relieve the strain of my heavy bag. I had to skate 36 miles and ascend a 3,600 foot climb around winding mountain roads, often stepping off the road Homer Simpson style into the bushes as cars raced past me! This day was a pivotal moment for me because it brought me within one day of skating to Phoenix, Arizona. I enjoyed this mountain scene painting, and the skate to the motel I stayed at was nice once I got through the supper hilly stuff. I saw a few wild pigs as I was approaching the town, and that was a cool interaction, as they were curious as to what I was doing. I'm sure they don't see many skateboarders in these hills. The night bombs down some of these roads were incredible, with a side of hamburger meat (super bumpy sketchy pavement) I'm getting excited to meet with my buddy Luke, who lives in Phoenix, and hoping I can push there tomorrow. It's looking like over 60 miles if I can do it...
