Day 9 - Catlett, Virginia

Day 9 Painting Across America really tested me... I had my second pair of shoes only last me about three and a half days, so we're already on pair number three. It ended up raining almost the entire day, and these roads have been insane! No shoulder at all, with semis and cars and trucks flying, and there were ditches on either side of the road that ended up filled with water. I managed to take refuge under a bridge, which I later dubbed the "spider cave. Saw a big furry brown guy in a web, navigated past thorn bushes, and almost sat on a black widow. I made a painting that captured the rainy vibes of the day, and hit the road again. I got drenched to the bone, and was pulled over by there sheriff! He offered me a ride, and I declined, but after an entire day of skating in the rain, getting soaked, and realizing I was 15 miles from any hotels, I had to set a checkpoint- and take a ride to backtrack, and I'll be heading back to the checkpoint hopefully tomorrow. I felt really discouraged today, and thought about giving up... But I think I got this! (Any rides I took were after setting checkpoints that I returned to later- as to make sure that I covered the entire distance of the United States with my own strength)
