Day 74 and the weather man lied! This day was a bit hectic from Van Horn to Sierra Blanca Texas. I got up and it was grey as hell out, with dark clouds looming overhead. I just spent several days recuperating from getting my ass beat in the desert, and now it was time to move, regardless of what the weather felt like doing. It was 33 miles and only about 600 feet of elevation gain today, but it felt like a lot more. At the top of the first hill, it started pouring rain. I had been walking a bit towards oncoming traffic on the interstate- since it was the only option I had. I sometimes preferred being able to see the cars coming rather than having my back turned to them. My neck hurt so bad from turning my head to see if cars were coming- that I gave up on looking back and just prayed I'd be alright. Over 2,000 miles of this, and kind of needed to just rely on good faith. So there I am, on the top of this hill, and it is just dumping on me- and this only happened the day after I got rid of my rain gear! I had a nice rain suit, but it was too sweaty to skate in and too heavy for my bag, so I tossed it before getting on the road. I covered myself and my backpack with trashbngs, and waited for it to pass. I'm soaking wet and it's cold today, especially on top of this rainy hill! I managed to skateboard down most of the hill, hopping off when there was heavy traffic, only in hopes that nobody would call the police on the crazy man in trash bags skateboarding towards oncoming traffic on the interstate in the middle of nowhere Texas. I found a cool little spot to paint, and started earlier than usual today, because I saw dark storm clouds ahead. I wasn't about to skate right into it, so I chose to wait it out while painting. A gust of wind threw my painting gear into the air and onto the gravel, but I managed to collect it after some searching and finish this painting. I had been busy preparing for a 275 mile stretch that is likely going to be a camping adventure in sub freezing temperatures, so I haven’t had much time to share the past few days. I made it to a hotel, and was stoked to be back on the move.
