My bag was far too heavy, and after a 53 mile skate yesterday, I was feeling wrecked. The extra few pounds was slowing me down tremendously, and I was having pains all through my body.
I stopped in at the Rocky Trading Post in Rocky, Oklahoma, and was greeted by Wyatt, a very friendly fella who had a lot of knowledge on backpacking. He offered me a few recommendations and ended up gifting me a lightweight sleeping bag for my travels! Because of his kindness, I figured it was only right to give him a tiny canvas I painted along the way!
Because my feet and knees and soul wanted to explode, I did a short day of 22.57 miles, with a climb of 489 feet- and got some good recovery sleep.
In the morning I was telling the woman working the motel I stayed at about my issues with the camping gear, and she offered to buy it from me so I can drop some weight without losing the money!
I’m starting to feel like the nicest people on the planet are in Oklahoma. It’s pretty nice to go somewhere completely out of my element where I don’t know a soul, and everyone wants to go out of their way to be kind, and help me along my travels!
