Day 48 - Meeker, Oklahoma

Do you like spiders?
I’m not too worried about them usually, but once they exceed a certain size, I try my best not to hang out with them!
On day 48 Painting Across America, I met the Mack daddy mumbo jumbo… and I had to back away!
While dealing with rough weather and minimal shoulder for a few days, I was also struggling to find a scene to paint before sundown.
Although I’m usually trying to find something beautiful to paint, sometimes something different stands out to me… And for today, it was a few dead trees that just felt spooky with the ominous clouds rolling behind them!
As I set up my gear to begin mixing paint, I look down at my backpack, and there he is! The Papa Grande of creepy crawlers! Unsure of whether or not he could hurt me, and after my recent hornet attack that required medical attention… I chose to let him maintain his territory in the grass!
I tried getting some good photos of this scary furry friend, but he scurried away, equally afraid of me as I was him.
After completing this painting, it began raining immediately!
Upon returning to the hotel, I noticed the rain had removed a few streaks and splotches of paint from the canvas… after careful consideration, I decided not to touch it up, and to leave it disturbed by the weather, as to let it remain raw and to reflect the harshness of the conditions! I made 36.38 miles with an elevation gain of 1265 feet.
I made it to Meeker, Oklahoma, and stayed in Shawnee for the night… Making it to Oklahoma City- my halfway point in the next day!
