Day 27 - Crossville, Tennessee

For day 27, I skated 53 miles, from Rockwood to Monterey, Tennessee
After over 30 miles, I stopped and painted a church in Crossville. I was feeling good, so I went for another 23 miles on a night skate mission, up to Monterey.
I’ve had some dogs bark and run at me, but only up until they got to the road… until this night!
I heard the typical barking of the hundredth dog and didn’t think much of it. Then I realized he was almost at my ankles- in the middle of the road! I had to push fast to get away from him so neither of us got hurt. I was a little startled but no big deal…
Until later in the evening, when I only had a few miles left, when I hear something in the bushes…
I look over and all I can see is a dark shadow. Without hesitation, I started pushing to speed up, but I turn my head and shine my headlamp towards the bushes. I can hear branches snapping and feel the weight of something heading towards me, but I was unable to make out what it was. My top priority was to move as fast as possible and I can guarantee that I reached my top speed of the trip in that moment.
I’ll never know for certain what was lurking in the darkness, ready to run out of the woods at me… and I’m ok with it being a mystery…
