Day 14 Painting Across America will be one I never forget. I was truly feeling terrible all day. My feet were hurting from skateboarding over 400 miles at this point, and I was kinda feeling down.
After two long weeks on the road, the excitement of skating coast to coast was quickly being replaced by pain and a little self doubt. I wasn’t doubting my will to accomplish my goals of:
-Skateboarding Across America
-Making A New Painting Daily
-Raising Money For Kids Art Supplies
I started doubting my physical body.
I’ve been training, planning, and preparing to make this trip happen; and have felt mentally and physically ready for it for quite some time…
But by two weeks in, my body was feeling wrecked. With my painting gear, filming equipment, and minimal personal items, my bag had been weighing in at a solid 20 pounds.
My back was feeling destroyed, and my feet weren’t doing any better.
On day 9; I was skateboarding for 12 hours through Virginia, and it rained almost the entire time. None of the roads I skated that day had any shoulder. By nightfall, I was in the dark, in the rain, on the highway, and almost every car that came by- had me jumping off the road into a ditch. Soaking wet head to toe, I wasn’t ready to stop pushing.
Those ditches did some damage. Rolling my ankles, straining my Achilles, and feeling it in my right knee by day 9 really got me in my head.
I wondered if my body could handle this kind of beating, and it got me stressing.
Not doubting my will, but questioning the limitations of my body.
And by day 14, on top of all that, I developed blisters on my feet that made it hurt to even stand.
I knew I had to keep going, and fight through the pain, as bad as it was.
I had a couple good phone calls that day, and built up the strength to push through the suffering!
When I found this abandoned house and got lit up by the hornets, I was in so much pain all over my body that I completely forgot my feet hurt. It was awesome!
Managed a distance of only 22.15 miles today, with an elevation gain of 1252 feet.
