Although this day was only about 25 miles of skateboarding and 1,000 foot climb- it was one of the most difficult days yet. After running out of food and water, and being left with super metallic well water as backup hydration, I was stressing that it was getting me sick. It burned my throat on the way down and I was uneasy about consuming a bunch of it. Last night I slept on the side of the highway, because my body was starting to shut down. Hungry, dehydrated, and physically exhausted- I knew to rest up and energize for this next push. As I skated through the open desert roads, I ran into a man on a motorcycle, who stopped to makes sure I was alright. After chatting, he gave me a few electrolyte tablets to put in the water. It was still so intense of a harsh drink, that I only took sips when I really felt dried up. With the majority of my push being uphill in the winding roads to Julian, I had to do a bit of sketchy walking around guardrails on sheer cliffs- to avoid being on the road with cars flying up and down the mountain. I was stopped by a couple who was traveling from abroad, and they gave me some clean water and an apple, which was such a refreshing treat. I skated up the rest of the hill and found this small abandoned shack and windmill. It made for a great painting. I ended up ordering four dinners when I got to town. I had starved through the day and tried to make up for it! I managed to eat three meals before passing out, and had a big sandwich to take on the road for the next day! I am feeling stoked that I'm so close to home, and I am happy to have made it through this challenging desert stretch...
