Day 2 - Love Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Day 2 Painting Across America brought me to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. it was a pretty straight shot on relatively comfortable roads, and I was still feeling energized and motivated to hit my daily goal of 36 miles. Growing up on the east coast, I have a ton of memories taking trips to Philly to skateboard and see concerts. It was surreal to realize I could have just skateboarded there instead of taking the train or driving. Love Park has been an iconic skate spot, and the LOVE sign drew me in. Despite the park being demolished to be unskateable, the sign is still there- and it made for a very powerful painting. I had mixed emotions and that made me want to paint monochromatic- feeling like the "love" was no longer in love park... Nonetheless, it was a fun piece, especially since the heavy foot traffic. I continued through the city, and made my way west. After deciding to push a bit further than planned, I came to the sad realization that there were no hotels in the direction I was skateboarding, and I had to backtrack towards the Philadelphia Airport. The roads there are very tight and windy- with hardly any shoulder, and it was now very dark. I had cemeteries on either side of the highway, and it was a bit of a run-down area to be in. I managed to get in 35.98 miles with 749 feet of elevation gain. This was the first day of wrong turns and lost miles, the first of many...
